The best beaches in the Southwest

When the sun is shining and the air is still and warm, where do you dream of being? Me, well I dream of being at a beautiful beach, soaking in the sun on the sand, getting that sun kissed tan that so many people crave to have then cooling off in the ocean. Fishermen may dream of casting a line and getting a personal best catch off the beach, a mighty big pink snapper or several whiting perhaps. When the conditions are right surfers may want to rush off from their daily grind and catch a few waves or perhaps you’re not interested in getting wet and simply just want to enjoy the views and hope to catch a glimpse of some marine life thriving and living wild and free.

No matter what your hopes and anticipations are, here in Australia’s Southwest you will find there is more than 1000km of awe-inspiring coastline with a significant number of bays and beaches that will help you make your beach dreams come true. Here’s my list of some of the best beaches in the Southwest.

Fishery Beach, Orcas Bremer Bay

This one is for the wildlife enthusiasts, have you ever heard about the Bremer Bay Killer Whales? Let me tell you a bit about them. Killer Whales otherwise known as Orca congregate 20 nautical miles offshore from Bremer Bay. You can join a tour from January – April with Naturaliste Charters who are the founders of what is called the Bremer Canyon Killer Whale (Orca) Expeditions. The expeditions are 8 hours long and depart from the Bremer Bay Boat Harbour, which is located at Fishery Beach, Bremer Bay. Not only is Fishery Beach a good location to join a tour but you can find some people fishing off the wharf and swimming in the beach. Fishery Beach is a 10–15-minute drive from the Bremer Bay town centre.

Busselton Foreshore, Busselton

Busselton Foreshore is an amazing hub for all, it is just a small stroll from the Busselton town centre and is home to Busselton’s newest brewery Shelter Brewing Co. The foreshore also hosts a great restaurant The Equinox, or if you are after some fish and chips to enjoy on a picnic table or one of the many great grassed areas then the Beach Shack also has a great menu. However amazing eats is not what this place is known for, it is the view of the world-famous Busselton Jetty, the white sand, turquoise water and a swimming zone with shark nets in place that helps make this place as phenomenal as it is. You will find families enjoying the chill atmosphere down on the foreshore, as well as professional athletes training, it is a destination for all and worth the visit.

Elephant Rocks and Green Pools

Elephant rocks and Green Pools are located within a few hundred metres of each other down on the Denmark coast. Elephant rocks are just like the name suggests, it’s a cove full of rocks that look just like elephants! Not only can you enjoy the view from above, but you can also make your way down the staircase into the cove itself, here you will find a nice stretch of sand to lay your towel out and head into the water for a refreshing swim!

Once you have finished admiring the Elephant rocks it’s time to make your way over to Green Pools which is just a ten-minute walk away. Green Pools is a must-see destination and is one of Western Australia’s most iconic beaches. It is famous for its turquoise green water, white sand and the large granite boulders that surround it. These boulders are ideal, it protects the bay from some of the harsh conditions that the Southern Ocean can provide making it an enjoyable destination for swimming for everyone including families. There are many varieties of fish here at Green pools including zebrafish, leather jackets and sea stars making it an ideal location for snorkelling. Both Elephant Rocks and Green Pools are easy to access, you only need a 2wd.

Hamelin Bay – Margaret River Region

Ok so Hamelin Bay ticks a few boxes, wildlife, fishing and swimming. Hamelin Bay has become quite famous for…. Sting Rays! Something you wouldn’t quite expect but it is a spectacle to experience at least once in your life. During the summer months when the Indian Ocean is calm, the seaweed has been cleared and you can expect to find many Sting Rays close to shore, generally between 9-10 in the morning, or later in the afternoon as the fishing boats arrive back in. The Hamelin Bay Sting Rays have a reputation of being friendly and curious and it is nice to be able to get a closer look at them by heading in the water, but it is always best to proceed with caution and please remember they are a protected species so please treat them with respect.

Some great fishing can be had in Hamelin Bay, you can either head out on your boat or cast a line from the shore. When fishing from shore the usual catch normally consists of herring, whiting and skippy, when fishing from your boat a bit further offshore you may be able to land yourself a dhu fish, pink snapper, queen snapper, kingfish and more! Just be sure to check out the local fishing regulations and don’t take more than your legal limit.

Which slice of paradise will you choose?

Australia’s Southwest is the region to visit for your dreamy beach day and how amazing that unless you are joining a tour you can experience all these slices of paradise for FREE! Whether you are in Bremer Bay Whale Watching, looking at Sting Rays with amazement, making out shapes of elephants out of rocks, or enjoying a locally brewed beer on the Busselton Foreshore just be sure to indulge in the fact that you are at one of the best beaches in the mesmerising Southwest.

Rose Burillo – Reasons Why I Fell In Love With The Incredible Mexico City

If you were being hyper-sensitive then you could certainly pick out a number of negatives about living in Mexico City. Despite the issues which the place may have however, there are far more reasons to love it than to hate it. I have been living here now for just over 4 years and during that time I really have fallen in love with the place.

If you have ever thought about visiting then it really is something which I would urge you to do, and here is exactly why I would urge you to do that.

The Food Options

The Mexican kitchen is sensational and what the capital city does is bring the food from throughout the republic. On top of this the city offers a wide range of food options from around the world and all of that is why the food here is so sensational.

Range of Neighborhoods

There is a wide range of neighborhoods to visit in the city and each one is different from the next. For example we have the likes of Polanco which is high end, we have Condesa which is filled with trees and quaint streets and we also have the oilers of Zocalo which is a bit rough and ready but is packed with historical features and sites.

The People

If you were to  judge the people here by the way that they drive then you would probably say that they were rude and aggressive. Thankfully however the way that they act on the road is not how the locals are in person, and my experience here is that they are incredibly welcoming and warm to strangers. I was lucky to have a friend here when I first arrived, Rose Burillo, and she was super helpful with helping me get accustomed to the city, she is the perfect example fo what the people are like here.

Streets Are Alive

The streets here are very much alive and each day there is something going on. In the street outside my home there is a market every Saturday and on a daily basis there are people stopping by to play the trumpet, sell sweets or tamales, and there is just such a vibrant feel to the streets here in the city.

Parks

If there is one thing which this city has done so well it has been the installation of many parks. First of all we have Chapultepec which is an enormous park which can be found in the center of the city. This is one of the largest urban parks in the world and it is a great place to enjoy an afternoon walking, cycling or even taking a boat out on the water.

Sundays

IT may sound like an odd thing to say but I have never enjoyed a Sunday as much in any other city on the planet than I do here. I think that ultimately this is because of the chaos through the week, but the reality is that when things calm down and you head out for a peaceful walk, this is a city with some truly beautiful parts to it.

If you haven’t visited yet, I would highly recommend that you do.

How to get from Cancun to Playa del Carmen and Tulum

Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum are among the most important destinations in the coastal strip of the Mexican Caribbean, in the stretch known as the Riviera Maya.

The flow of people that move daily between Playa del Carmen and Cancun is considerable, so there are easier ways to move between these two cities. All transportation stops at Puerto Morelos, which is halfway between the two cities. Tulum, further south, has easy connections to the other destinations.

There are several ways to move comfortably between these cities, and some details when traveling through the huge amount of places that there are in the Riviera Maya, not only there are people with intentions to visit the places, there are also workers from the different hotels, people who serve for entertainment, and can crowd the public transport at certain times and seasons, so you must be careful when choosing the right transport.

Private transportation

One of the favorite options for businessmen and business travelers is private transportation, and not only for the comfort and luxury, but also for time reasons, because when you arrive in Cancun you will want to make the most of your stay and there is no better way to do it than avoiding spending unnecessary time in transportation services, instead of taking it to visit and know new places. One of the easiest ways to travel is to book your transportation from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen, it is the best way to enjoy yourself and have plenty of time to live each of the experiences.

Rent a car and tour the Riviera Maya.

Another great option that expert travelers in Cancun use is to rent a car for more than two weeks. There are companies like City Car Rental, which besides providing you with car rental Cancun services include juicy promotions in bars, clubs, theme parks and restaurants, which are super famous worldwide and you will save many dollars. Travelers who have already booked with this company usually rent from one week to get better promotions.

Something very important is that it is very easy to travel all over the Riviera Maya in a car, and my recommendation immediately use a car rental at you arrival and travel happily and comfortably.

We are very sure that you will enjoy traveling around the Riviera, Tulum and Playa del Carmen have everything you need to fall in love with them, don’t forget to visit the Tulum ruins, have a diving session in Playa del Carmen and party in Cancun

Reasons Why You Should Plan Your Next Holidays to Puglia

With a delightful mixture of sightseeing and exciting activities, there are a lot of good reasons for planning your holidays to Puglia.

Puglia – the southern region of Italy has everything you think about the great nation. To start with, it is the sun-bleached heel of Italy’s boot, adorned by the turquoise blue water, sandy beaches and miles of wild coastlines of the Adriatic Sea. The cities are filled with chic bars and cozy eateries, while the countryside produces the ingredients- the olives, the cheese, the wines! People carved houses out of stones in the ancient times, and the architects built the extravagant churches and synagogues. It has seen countless number of conquerors, but also lovingly known as the ‘Florence of the South’.

Therefore, holidays to Puglia is a popular phenomenon. Be it a trip to bond with the special someone, or an occasion to spend with the family; Puglia is the destination for your perfect Italian holiday. Find out the reasons why!

Sandy Beaches

As a region surrounded by the sea, the silky sand beaches are an obvious attraction. The 4km stretch of Torre Lapillo formed an arc between two 16th century watchtower, making it ideal for families. Whereas, Pescoluse – the southernmost point is known as the Maldives of Puglia. The Baia dei Turchi is wild, for its lines of pine trees. Anyways, Puglia is not only about sunbathing. In July every year, the town Polignano al Mare hosts some of the world’s most-skilled divers. Spots like San Gregorio, Grotta della Poesia also offers some nice cliff jumping opportunities. For adventure seekers, there is also the opportunity of scuba diving at Otranto ad Torre Lapillo.

Sneak-a-peek to the Past

Puglia showcases some of the most exquisite ways of living of our predecessors. The Town Matera houses a complex of cave dwelling carved into the mountains during the ancient period. Grotte di Castellana goes back some 90 million years, and is now the most famous caverns in the region. The baroque splendor of Lecce, the 13th century castle ‘Castel del Monte’, the Scolanova Synagogue and other Jewish heritage in Trani, etc. are just a few examples of Puglia’s rich architectural heritage. The Trulli homes of Valle d’Itria sheds a bright light on its traditional ways of living in the countryside, with their fairy-tale like whitewashed stone and cone-shapes roofs. Many of Puglia’s archaeological sites have been recognized by the UNESCO World Heritage committee, and provides a charming sneak-a-peek to the past.

Great Tasting Foods

The highly-regarded Italian culinary arts extend to the Puglia region, albeit, with a twist of local delicacies. Great tasting obvious items like seafood and pastas can be found everywhere. However, it’s their heritage of local cuisines that got declared as an expression of a unique culture by UNESCO. ‘Fave e Cicoria’, ‘Caciocavallo’ cheese from Martina Franca, Biscotto di Ceglie, etc. are some of its local cuisines. The region is also famous for producing extra virgin olive oils, and its locally produced wines.

Travel-friendly Environment

For its popularity, Puglia is well-equipped to deal with a strong surge of tourists every year. There are a lot of great hotels and resorts, some of which are restored medieval farmhouse, or centuries old warehouses. There are also a lot private tour and public tour packages offered all across the year. From a day-long guided walking tour to a long safari across the region – you are sure to find a package suitable for your need. You can also choose to tailor-made your itineraries with the help of a guide.

Top Reasons to See a Live Show in Vegas

When you go to Vegas there are a number of experiences and activities which you will want to indulge in. Many go for the gambling scene, looking to try their luck in the many casinos here, others look to day trips to places like Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, and some just want to hit some of those world-famous pool parties with some of the hottest DJs on the planet. Something which I would absolutely recommend that you do during your time here is to catch a live show of some type, and here is why you are going to love it.

The Home of Entertainment

Las Vegas is the live entertainment capital of the world and it has been for a very long time. These stages have been graced by the likes of Sinatra, Davis Jr and Martin, Elvis, Tom Jones, Cher, Elton John, Prince, Celine Dion and just about every artist with legendary status around the world. Where better then than to watch a live performance of a musical or a theater show than in the home of live entertainment?

Range of Options

Unlike New Your’s Broadway, here in Las Vegas there is a wide range of live performances which you can go to see. This could be going to see Penn & Teller’s magic show, catching the Carrot Top comedy gig, being wowed by a Cirque du Soleil performance of indulging in something a little more risqué with a cabaret show like Blanc de Blanc. Whatever type of live show you are interested in, you are guaranteed to find it here on the Vegas strip.

Ticket Prices

The best part about Vegas shows is that the tickets are very reasonably priced and it won’t break the bank for you to go and see some amazing live shows. In other locations like New York the ticket pricing is absolutely obscene whereas in Vegas you can find deals and promotions to save you some serious cash. Last time my wife and I were in Vegas we found some great deals on Absinthe tickets and this meant that the night afterwards we still had some money left to go to see Cirque du Soleil. These shows are very accessible no matter what your budget is.

Feel Good Factor

Vegas likes to things big and the performers and the people who have created these shows knows that only too well. It is for this reason why the lights, costumes and the performances are given such importance and you are bound to come out of the venue feeling absolutely great about what you have seen. There are no bad shows in Vegas and that is because the standard has been set so high. This is only good news for those who are going to see the shows, and you are going to be guaranteed a smile on your face when you leave.

Whatever you are into, there will be a show in Vegas for you which will blow your socks off.

Top Reasons To Visit Cambodia

Source: Sasin Tipchai on Pixabay

With a turbulent history, Cambodia made the headlines up until 1999 for all the wrong reasons. The nation was either at war with itself or a foreign (sometimes both!) power since the 1940’s. It was only after the assassination of Pol Pot – one of the world’s most evil mass murderers and dictators – that the country knew peace after 60 years of virtually non-stop war.

Sadly, today that mind-boggling amount of time at war still leaves a legacy, with land mines and unexploded ordnance still remaining a problem in rural parts of the country. Though through war crimes tribunals putting on trial the last surviving members of the nation’s genocide in the late 1970’s, and the passage of time at relative peace, Cambodia has reconciled with the dark history and moved on into the 21st century with optimism about the future and rediscovering it’s former glorious past ancient history with the Angkor temple ruins.

Phnom Penh

The kingdom’s capital admittedly does look a little rough around the edges, but do not let that deceive you: Phnom Penh is still worth a couple of days, if not only to get a sense of how this nation’s dark recent history continues to have an impact on it’s people, and it will certainly give you a sense of how just how resilient and enduring the people are.

S-21 is a sobering experience to say the least: It was formerly a school prior to the Communist takeover of the country by a faction known as the Khmer Rogue, who killed around a  third of their own people in only 4 years, in which they turned it into a prison and torture camp for political dissidents. Many of the torture implements can be seen in the rooms and cells and an audio guide describes things like the photos of captives taken by prison guards as you walk around the complex.

It is highly recommended that after this, you head 45 minutes drive out of the city to a place known as “the killing fields”. This is where the prisoners were taken after being tortured and forced to sign confessions and were often executed in the most barbaric ways imaginable in order for the Khmer Rogue to save bullets. Methods of suffocating victims through tying plastic bags around their heads or clubbing them to death were not at all uncommon.

Perhaps the most striking monument to this appalling tragedy is the Skull Stupa that has skulls of victims spiralling from the ground to the top spire of the stupa, erected as a memorial to the dead Some of these skulls are clearly the skulls of children, and some show head trauma indicating they were clubbed until skull fractures caused fatal brain damage, while others still show bullet holes.

But Phnom Penh is not all doom and gloom. Today it is modernising at an incredibly rate and the Royal Palace located in the Riverside District devoted to virtually all the tourist infrastructure showcases Cambodia’s brighter history as a regional superpower, with nightly traditional Cambodian dancing. Riverside is also home to a buzzing nightlife as well as hundreds of restaurants and eateries.

Siem Reap

Siem Reap is located about 4 hours drive west of Phnom Penh and is considered by most to be the much more appealing of the 2 cities. Interestingly, the ethnic and linguistic make up of Siem Reap is mainly Laotian, rather than Cambodia, and the local friendly and welcoming culture is certainly testament to Laos’.

But of course, Siem Reap is most famous for being the gateway to the Angkor Ruins. Not Just Angkor Wat – the most famous temple ruin – but the whole Angkor empire, which is scattered over some 100kms of pretty rural and jungle Cambodian countryside. Indeed, every year that passes, dozens more temple ruins are discovered, and it is strongly recommended you go for the 3 day passes, as 1-day passes don’t even allow enough time to scrape the surface!

Of course it’s impossible to list even 1/10th of the temples and palaces that make up the ruins of this lost empire, but the travellers favourites always seem to be Angkor Thom, which was featured in the movie Tomb Raider some years ago,  as well as the Bayon, which is a temple that features the four faces of Vishnu carved into each side of the upper towers.

Angkor Wat is of course sensational too, but to avoid the crowds go at first light to make sure you are first there. If you are lucky, guards will allow you access before official opening hours, in which you will then be able to climb to the top centre tower and have a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding jungle as the sun rises above it. Book a cheap flight to Siem Reap to explore this amazing area for yourself!

Sihanoukville

Finally, The coastal town of Sihanoukville is worth a mention. About 3 hours south of Phnom Penh, it lacks the world class snorkelling and diving of Thailand and Indonesia, but offers up 5 different white sand beaches each with a different flavour, plus the opportunity to go to nearby Koh Rong island to get a glimpse of what Thailand’s islands were like back in the early 1990’s: Little visited, pristine and lacking any infrastructure and loud bars pumping out dance music until the early hours.

So, although Cambodia still sometimes gets negative press based largely around a troubled past it is moving faster and further away from, ignore this. If anything, it is worth just visiting for the Angkor ruins which are unlike nothing else in the world.

7 things you should know about Canada before traveling

Canada is a country which offers you pristine beauty and unexplored places. With the increasing awareness of its pristine beauty, more and more travelers are planning a trip to Canada each year. While Canada is generally warm and friendly with tourists but there are a few things which you need to remember before you plan your Canadian trip. 1. Large Geographical area:

Canada is the second-largest country on the globe. That is why; the geographical area of Canada is pretty huge. Moreover, if you want to explore the pristine beauty, you must head over to the countryside. It will require you to travel long distances. That is why, when preparing to explore the beauty of Canada, you have to keep the distances in mind before planning your trip. You can also focus on a single geographical region rather than traveling the length and breadth of the country. Some of the areas that you can plan to explore are:
  • Rocky Mountains
  • West Coast
  • Maritimes
When you focus on a single region, you can cover that in a short span. Moreover, the amount of traveling required will be minimal as well. As a result, exploring Canada will be comparatively easy for you.

The accommodation options are costly in Canada. Whether looking for resorts or hotels or any other type of accommodation, you will have to spend a significant amount of money. The food and beverage options are even more expensive. Hostels and B&Bs might be present in some major cities and tourist centers, but you will not find them in the countryside. That is why it is better to opt for Couch surfing.

Couchsurfing involves staying in an extra bedroom if you’re willing to help the host with a particular task or provide them some company. There are dedicated sites for Couchsurfing which will connect you with the hosts. • Sandwiches
  • Coffee and more

Also, it is affordable, which means that you will not have to shell out a significant amount of money to get a snack.

Health care in Canada for tourists is costly. That is why; you must have a travel insurance policy. It will mean that you can access quality health care. Even smaller problems in Canada can cost you hundreds of dollars for consultations. If the procedure is elaborate, it can cost you thousands of dollars.

When you have a travel insurance policy, it is all covered. In case of any unfortunate incident, you can get quality health care. You have to ensure, however, that you read the fine print of your travel insurance policy. Only once you do so, it is easy to understand what is covered and what is not. It is better to choose a policy which covers adventure sports and other such activities so that you get complete coverage. Irrespective of the premiums, you should get travel insurance for yourself when traveling to Canada.

7. Explore the countryside:

However, you don’t have to worry because I’m here to provide you with all the required information and to talk you into paying a visit to this extraordinary island of the Aegean Sea in the next few weeks. Starting off, this place is known to celebrities globally and there are really important reasons for it and we are going to refer to them below. Most of you might be thinking that it would be an excellent idea to visit this earthly paradise during off-season as it would be easier to book a place to spend the nights and that the clubs and the restaurants will be less crowded. But-take my word-you will regret it as the best season to explore this beauty is during summer months.

BEACHES AND CLUBS

Mykonos boasts some of the greatest beaches you could possibly imagine. “Super Paradise”, “Agrari” and “Platys Gialos” are just some of them and only if you visit them and swim in their crystal-clear waters will you get to my point. You aren’t the swimmer kind of guy? Stay cool-neither am I! That’s why there are dozens of sun loungers in every shore for you to relax while having your beverage and reading your favorite book in the shade. Please, don’t forget your sunglasses and sunscreen though since Greek sun is really hazardous at this time of year and precautions are absolutely vital.

Greek islands, like Mykonos, are rather popular with the youth and celebrities for their clubs. In fact, there are two sorts of them: the usual ones as all around the world and the beach ones. The former don’t need to be advertised as they are pretty known and more or less all of us have been to such a place at least once in our lives. But some guests are not very familiar to the latter. Thus, let me tell you a bit about them. Beach clubs are found only in coastal areas and they do not offer just drinks and snacks. Apart from the expected stuff, special events like weddings, concerts and Dj parties are organized almost on a daily basis and mirth goes on like forever! Music plays really loud unstoppably, day and night, and customers cheer while enjoying their drink or just sunbathing nearby.
