Drive A- Camp Freddy Contest

DRIVE A

Drive A isn’t just entering the rock scene, they’re kickin’ in the door. The 4 musicians from Los Angeles have an irresistible modern edge with a classic rock vibe. Drive A write their own music and can play the shit out of there instrument. They just completed their first full length record with producer Julian Raymond. This fall Drive A is opening for Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, The Donnas, Fly Leaf, The Toadies and rock legends Cheap Trick. Motley Crue’s drummer Tommy Lee said, “These boys are SERIOUS!! Everyone better watch out or start practicing more.” Don Henley of The Eagles stated, “I’m shocked by the precision of the band & how accomplished they are beyond their years.

”The energy of their live shows kicks ass. They’ve opened for Sugarcult, Camp Freddy & Panic Channel. They played at Blender magazine’s SXSW event where they were showcased on VH1 music news. They are driven with an incredible work ethic. They are on a Mission…to be the biggest band in the world!

Still laughing - still exhausted- still deaf - still drying out - still laughing.
Had the best time ever in Austin, Texas. Pushed myself further than I thought I could go. From band to band and just hand me another cocktail my friend. The highlights of the story go something like this….

Pop Levi

PopLevibyMarkMcNulty1

Conceived in a London hospital and born to a Jewish doctor and a Gentile nurse, Pop Levi has led what one might call a “melodic” life. He began studying piano at 3, joined a gospel choir at 7, started collecting records at 9, and soon after wrote his first song, “Through The Window Of My Life”. He created a band with some flat mates called Super Numeri. Pop did a stint playing bass guitar on tour with Ladytron, all the while performing on occasion with Super Numeri. And eventually set out for solo success. His solo project shone mad success after SXSW 2007.

Megan’s Not To Be Missed List

MIss Derringer
Friday April 20th at The Roxy Theatre
Miss Derringer, The Autumns, Mad Juana
**Miss Derringer is music for the full moon…dark and beautiful. Recommended by equally talented Holland Greco ( formerly of The Peak Show) when she says it’s hot - i say “how high” or was that jump? either way the band brings it and they’ll be joined by LA’s own Autumns + Mad Juana from New York City.

Joseph Arthur
Tues and Wed May 8 and 9 at The Roxy Theatre
Joseph Arthur, Stars of Track and Field
** the first time I saw Joseph Arthur I levitated. Was about 1/2 an inch off the ground for about an hour. Dark Corner. Jack n Coke. Was flying solo as there was not room for even one more at Largo that night… An artist not to be missed and a show I’ll never forget. No need to say, it’s an honor to have Joseph Arthur for a 2 night run at The Roxy.
+ Stars of Track and Field…holy snaps this band cracked my back. No really - one of the top picks at SxSW!!

Hollywood..it’s kind of fun right now. See you at the shows. peace, megan

SXSWROX

megan(talent buyer), kyra(new media) and i all made it out to sxsw this year. the girls went early in the week and laid the ground work seeing almost every possible band there was to see, and took notes. you guys were awesome! i came in on the friday at noon. this would be the first time the roxy has made a team effort in austin for the annual “cochella meets the french quarter” mixed with a little(or a lot depending who you were with)drinking talking and walking, called south by southwest. it was an eye and ear opening experience. i already thought there were so many bands out there being at the roxy day in and day out, but there must have been 1000’s of bands in austin. all kinds, from metal to rap to electronica but i felt it was mostly indie rock. there was music coming out of every building, bar, restaurant, nook, cranny, crevice, alleys and sidewalks. i definitely was on the verge on sensory overload the whole time i was there. the bands that i like the most were #1 the black angels, love them. they killed there show at antones. also liked tokyo police club and architecture in helsinki. i saw peaches for the first time live in a club that was soo packed i didn’t even attempt to get on to the floor, she rocked it. my highlight was taking my 13 and 14 year old brothers to see mickey avalon at some way out club at 1am. cobrasnake met us at the backdoor and got us right in and after hanging with my brothers mickey and kev e hit the stage and a rocked a six song set ending with jane fonda( produced by cisco my other little brother)which had the whole crowd singing “shake it little mama…” all in all we had a great time doing 6th street, met a lot of great new people and found some old ones again too. to all the artists, bands, venues, sponsors and labels, and the city of austin. it was really fun and can’t wait till next year, thanks texas for something other than george bush. please let us know your sxsw story and please let us know any and all bands you saw there and would love to see at the roxy!

We’re rebuilding our website, live

The Roxy Theater on Sunset

Wait, what’s this? What happened to The Roxy website?!

Don’t panic, we are simply refreshing our presence on the web. We’re starting our new site with this blog because we wanted more fresh content and comments from y’all. We just returned from SXSW and we’re going to start by adding some content from our trip (as soon as our feet have rested). In the coming days we’ll be adding show information and fun stuff like YouTube videos. Keep checking back because we’ll also be doing a live redesign of this site and your comments will influence our direction. Ready to help now? You can start by dropping your thoughts on this post about what you’d like to see from our site.

That’s all for now, keep on rockin’ in the free world.
