It seems like its been too long since The Donnas took control of the Roxy stage - we got a little taste when they were special guests at one of our favorite Rooney shows - but it’s been a while since we got to reallllyyyy see them rock. Now with a new album out…we can’t wait to see what they’ll bring!
Man its good to be back in California. I’ve been having one big summer party
since we got home on the 4th of July. I was just at Sam from phantom planet’s
wedding over the weekend. It was really insane and the music was awesome. Simon
Dawes (the band) learned a ton of covers and special guest singers included
Olivia Newton John, Jimmy Buffet, Adam Levine, Alex Greenwald, and yours
truly…I sang “cupid” by Sam Cooke. It was a nice taste of the performer’s life
but I’m already bored and ready to play again. See you Monday night!
-Ned, Rooney
We are honored that the Roxy will be hosting our record release
party/show. This album has been a long time in the works, and we are
thrilled to finally be putting it out. The residency gigs at the Roxy
in April were the highlight of our year so far….we are attempting to
top all 4 of those gigs next monday night!!!

Famed virtuoso of screen and sound, Jason Schwartzman, released a solo project in March of 2007 featuring special guests, including Robert Schwartzman (Rooney), Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet) and Mike Einziger (Incubus). The show at The Roxy introduced Coconut Records live for the very first time…
Simon Dawes is a 4 piece rock band from Malibu, California. The story behind the band’s name is a mystery, as many different sources have many different stories. The biography on their website simply states “Simon Dawes is a band… named after no one.” The band is composed of four friends. Its founding members Taylor Goldsmith (vocals, guitar, keys, lyrics) and Blake Mills (vocals, guitar, and lyrics) began playing music together in junior high, and their sound evolved and became Simon Dawes with the addition of Wylie Gelber (bass) and Stuart Johnson (drums).
Along with playing many California shows, Simon Dawes has toured with The Walkmen, Maroon 5, Band of Horses, Eisley, and Wolfmother, among other artists.
They recently were featured on the soundtrack for the movie Spider-Man 3, with their song “Scared of Myself”.

Rooney is a five-piece rock band from Los Angeles signed to Geffen Records. The band is composed of 5 members: Robert Carmine, Louie Stephens, Taylor Locke, Ned Brower, and Matthew Winter. The band is named after the character Principal Ed Rooney from the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Their music is reminiscent of British Invasion rock and 1980s pop, and has been compared to The Beatles, The Cars and Blur. Having toured the nation with acts such as Weezer and The Strokes, Rooney’s official website states that the band “manages to capture elements from the past four decades and make them sound modern today.”
Phantom Planet is an alternative rock band based out of Southern California. The band is most widely known in popular culture for its track “California“, which became the theme song for the popular Fox TV series, The O.C..
