When Mickey Avalon rang in the New Year of ‘07 - we knew it would set the scene for one of the best years in Roxy history. And we were right! 2007 was a crazy year for us - we had some of the most legendary acts hit our stage - and some of the hippest up and comers. So now, we want to celebrate the end of an amazing year - and usher in 2008 in TRUE Roxy Fashion. With the hottest rock show - and biggest party of course! We cannot be more excited to host the ultimate in New Year’s Eve festivities! THE EAGLES OF DEATH METAL are definitely the band to take us out in rock n roll fashion!
Their’s never been a better time to party it up like Little Radio rockstars at The Roxy Theatre than with the Eagles Of Death Metal featuring Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes, Joshua “Babyduck” Homme, Darlin’ Dave Catching and Brian “Big Hands” O’Connor. This evening will be hosted by our friends at Little Radio, who really know how to throw one HUGE New Years party!
One of the most notorious party spots on the Sunset Strip - On The Rox has been home to some of the most legendary Rock N Roll happenings EVER. It’s a small space that knows how to shake it! It’s normally a 21+ room, but for the show on 12/7 - we didn’t want to leave anyone out! Make sure to catch all the bands - which includes “We Shot The Moon” featuring members from Sherwood and the former singer of Waking Ashland.
The Roxy thanks our friends over at the LAist for reminding us how much fun we had hosting the Zune launch Party, where the Red Hot Chili Peppers blew us away. Check out today’s front page post on laist.com.

A Year Ago The Chili Peppers Played The Roxy
Despite all the competition that’s around it and new clubs that are constantly popping up, the Roxy has continued to be a major player in the LA rock club scene.
It was just a year ago yesterday that the Red Hot Chili Peppers played a rockin show at the classic venue - and not only was LAist there, but we gave out a dozen free tickets to lucky wieners. Keeping the hope alive, the Roxy was home to another legendary group just a few weeks ago when the Sex Pistols played there.
And then on Friday, the B-52’s will hit the small stage on the Sunset Strip, proving that the Roxy still has it and it ain’t going nowhere. But for now let’s just harken back to a year ago when Flea, Anthony, John and that other guy brought it all back home.

Best known for her work as lead singer and bassist in the ’80s and early-’90s alternative rock trio Concrete Blonde, Johnette Napolitano is also a poet, social activist, soundtrack composer, and sculptor. Born in Hollywood on September 22, 1957, Napolitano lurked on the fringes of the Los Angeles punk and new wave scene, working at the legendary Gold Star Studios until she formed the duo Dream 6 with guitarist Jim Mankey. The pair recorded a self-titled 1982 EP produced by Jim’s brother Earle Mankey (like Jim, a former member of the first lineup of Sparks, and at the time one of the hottest producers on the L.A. new wave scene), which attracted the attention of IRS Records boss Miles Copeland. With a new drummer in Chicago transplant Harry Rushakoff and a new name supposedly bestowed by R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe that was supposed to connote the band’s mix of hard and soft elements, Concrete Blonde released their self-titled debut in 1987. This was quickly followed by Free, Bloodletting (featuring the group’s biggest hit, “Joey”), Walking in London, and Mexican Moon, before Concrete Blonde split in 1995. Napolitano then moved on to two short-lived projects, Vowel Movement (a collaboration with Holly Beth Vincent of Holly & the Italians) and Pretty & Twisted (with the late Marc Moreland, formerly of Wall of Voodoo), as well as occasional Concrete Blonde reunion albums. Following this, Napolitano began a second career as soundtrack composer for small and medium-budget indie films such as Wicker Park and Underworld. She also released a pair of largely improvised and mostly electronic albums, Sketchbook and Sketchbook 2, in 2002 and 2006. Johnette Napolitano’s first proper solo album, Scarred, followed in the spring of 2007. - Stewart Mason, All Music Guide
Tuesday June 12th Lifesavas
From Rolling Stones Top 10 Artists to watch:
Hip-hop was still a fresh phenomenon when Vursatyl and Jumbo of Lifesavas met in Portland, Oregon, in the mid-Eighties. “People would tell me, ‘There’s another cat in town that dresses like you,’” recalls Vursatyl. “We were both wearing fat laces in our shoes, big bubble vests and goggles year-round. There were only a handful of us.” After spending the Nineties releasing material on their own label, Lifesavas dropped Spirit in Stone in 2003, on Quannum. But it’s their follow-up, Gutterfly, that should put them over the top. “We put it all on the table with this album,” says Vursatyl. “Who knows what will come after this?”
Each member of Strange Fruit Project sings, raps and is influenced by the constant journey of everyday life. The group has made a huge impact in a short period of time. Through innovative production and creative lyrics their music separates them from many independent artists. Strange’s 2004 release, Soul Travelin, was an underground beat banging collector’s item which included hip-hop and soul at the root of its origin.
At 6′4 (6′6 with afro), the 1/2 Armenian 1/2 Russian ANDRE LEGACY is a Los Angeles native with roots in its ever evolving hip-hop culture. Once known to “underground” aficionados as METFLY, ANDRE LEGACY has re-invented himself today as a voice of the people…the people that like to have a good time. Aside from his solo work, ANDRE is also well known as 1/3 of the notorious DYSLEXIC SPEEDREADERS (also featuring Dirt Nasty & Mickey Avalon). Most people may be familiar with their anthem, “My Dick” of which ANDRE LEGACY is credited for conceptualizing in an Asian massage parlor off of La Brea. With tons of shows under his belt in and around the United States, a growing legion of fans and hundreds of songs in the can, ANDRE will be releasing his debut album (as ANDRE LEGACY) this year on Shoot To Kill Music. Is the world ready for ANDRE LEGACY? If his live shows, catalog of songs and harem of women are any indication, then yes…the world is ready!!! Brace yourselves!!!
Hip-Hop lovers the world over have been inundated by cynics who think they’re part of a dying art form. On the contrary, the members of Now On are leading a rebirth of the very fundamentals that defined Hip-Hop thirty years ago: originality, voice, culture and of course, entertainment. In fusing and confusing this elemental barometer, Now On emerges with a grimy freshness unseen or heard to date. Consisting of emcees IX Lives (son of Larry “Squirrel” Demps of the legendary Dramatics) and Jackson Perry formerly of Funktelligence, together with Haircut of Athletic Mic League (AML), Now On is set to make their tenure in the music industry the very definition of Def.

Fans and performers alike will readily tell the tales of their more memorable Roxy experiences. Such is the influence of one of the country’s most legendary and influential music venues. From the Roxy’s 1973 opener featuring Neil Young, to Bruce Springsteen’s now-classic 1975 performances, the history of The Roxy Theatre is paved with icons, whether it was Guns N’ Roses’ pre-stardom shows, Miles Davis, Jane’s Addiction, Pearl Jam, or others. Three decades on, the club has also been a popular performance Mecca for other entertainment, including stage productions, comedy shows, and performance art. Among the club’s unique features are comfortable booth seating, full-service and draft bar, and a menu that features a modest array of dishes to keep appetites satisfied. The Roxy’s open dance floor and superb sound facilities offer fans one of the most intimate entertainment experiences around. There’s also “On The Rox,” an on-site, after-hours facility that has been the setting for some of Hollywood’s hottest parties. Located above The Roxy and overlooking Sunset Blvd., “On The Rox” features its own full-service bar and DJ booth with proprietary sound system. Always in touch with its past, The Roxy lets fans glimpse at the legacy when they enter the club, thanks to an extensive collection of artist performance photos that adorn the club’s walls.
The Roxy Theatre (often just The Roxy) is the lengendary nightclub located on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California.
It was opened on September 23, 1973 by Elmer Valentine and Lou Adler along with original partners David Geffen, Elliot Roberts and Peter Asher. They took over building previously occupied by a strip club owned by Chuck Landis called the Largo. (Adler was actually responsible for bringing the stage play Rocky Horror Show to the United States, and it opened its first American run at The Roxy Theatre in 1974, before it was made into the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show the next year.)
Hundreds of famous and yet-to-be-famous acts such as Nirvana (band), Tori Amos, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Al Stewart, Jane’s Addiction and David Bowie have played this highly prestigious venue.
The small On The Rox bar above the club has hosted a wide variety of debauchery in its history; it was a regular hangout for John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Alice Cooper and Keith Moon during Lennon’s “lost weekend” in 1975, and in the 1980s hosted parties arranged by “Hollywood Madam” Heidi Fleiss.
According to LA.com, On The Rox “may be forever known as the club where John Belushi partied before fatally ODing. That may sound like a sordid reason for the club’s fame, but it only underscores the hard-partying reputation that befits a room equipped with two stripper poles. Recently, it has hosted private DJ nights as well as after-parties following the shows downstairs; on a Tuesday night not long ago, all three members of buzz band Kings of Leon were spotted heading upstairs to rock out with the Mooney Suzuki after their Roxy show.”
