Beth Hart is a singer who became famous with the hit “L. A. Song”.
Beth Hart dropped out of high school to focus on her songwriting. Her vocal style has been described as raw and passionate, with some similarities to Joan Armatrading and Janis Joplin, but differing from her contemporary folksingers. Recorded while she was heavily addicted to drugs, in Immortal she projected a tone of anger, confusion, and imbalance. Continue reading ‘We Hart Beth’
The rock, hip-hop, and dance duo Junior Senior may be a U.K. darling, but the pair’s hearts remain in Jutland — their homeland in the western peninsula of Denmark. The group merged in 1995 after Ludo-X members Jesper “Junior” Mortensen and Jeppe “Senior” Laursen left the Copenhagen indie band. In 1998 Junior Senior was formed and the band inked a deal with Danish label Crunchy Frog. The two went on to record the infectious single “Move Your Feet,” which became the most played song in Denmark and eventually took over European radio. In 2003 the band released the critically lauded full-length D-D-D-Don’t Stop the Beat. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
Grant-Lee Phillips is best known as the voice and vision of the critically acclaimed group Grant Lee Buffalo. Soon after the band’s 1993 debut album “Fuzzy†was on the shelves they headed for Europe, it was there that the band had it’s first taste of commercial and critical success. Soon, they found themselves headlining large venues and playing every major festival, touring at a dizzying pace.
At home a strong fan base was forming seeded by some of popular music’s greatest names, and soon these band’s offered Grant Lee Buffalo opening slots on major tours. Grant Lee Buffalo went on the road with REM, Pearl Jam and The Smashing Pumpkins to name just a few. It was this incessant touring that earned Grant-Lee Buffalo a devoted following both in the States and abroad.
Meanwhile, Grant-Lee Phillips’ searching, sometimes political songwriting continues to evolve well after the release of four major albums. The singer-songwriter has always moved restlessly, beginning with the mercurial acoustic-fuzz driven ballads of “Fuzzy,†to the moody cinematic “Mighty Joe Moon†in ‘94 which yielded the classic single “Mockingbirds.†From the diverse orchestral labyrinth of “Copperopolis†in ‘96 to the celebrational swan song of “Jubilee,†which brought with it the widely successful gem “Truly, Truly.â€
After being voted best male vocalist of ‘95 by Rolling Stone magazine, he was heralded by fans and critics alike as being both a visionary and one of the most important songwriters of his generation. Known for his sweepingly cinematic forum that are both profoundly insightful and casually poetic his music continues on in this tradition.
In 1999 after many tumultuous changes at Warner Brothers both the band and the company had reached an impasse. Shortly after a long tour of duty in Australia promoting Jubilee word circulated that Phillips would continue on alone, while the fate of Grant Lee Buffalo would remain open. It was during this time that a mutual agreement was found, Warners would not pick up the option if Phillips wanted to go elsewhere and so he packed his bags and looked forward to the future.
Currently, Phillips is busy in Los Angeles playing to rapidly sold out shows at Largo. During these performances he has been showcasing new songs and approaches. His recent material carries the same depth and insight as his previous work but with added vibrancy and a new experimental edge. A bonus to Phillips solo engagements has been the exposure of a deeply human side, a unique, off beat sense of humor and love of spontaneity that might have been lost in the echo of mammoth venues.
West Hollywood, Ca. The World Famous Sunset Strip and The Roxy Theatre welcomed The Queen of All Media. Heres some highlights from Perez’s birthday on Saturday night from perezhilton.com
Paris Hilton and Perez Hilton in Hollywood at The Roxy
Hedwig & The Angry Inch is one of our favorite musicals and Donovan killed it!
He even brought along his dad, Donovan, to join him for a song, and our pal, Dave Navarro, jumped onstage to jam on another tune as well. At Perez’s prompting, Dave kindly took off his shirt, just how we like it!
We flew in our favoritest DJ in the world, Doug Grayson, to keep the energy flowing and the bodies moving in between the surprise performances, and he burned the house down! On fire!!!!
Equally hot were one of our favorite LA bands, Ultraviolet, who performed their sweet sweet electro music, setting the stage for none other than The Gossip.

Fans and performers alike will readily tell the tales of their more memorable Roxy experiences. Such is the influence of one of the country’s most legendary and influential music venues. From the Roxy’s 1973 opener featuring Neil Young, to Bruce Springsteen’s now-classic 1975 performances, the history of The Roxy Theatre is paved with icons, whether it was Guns N’ Roses’ pre-stardom shows, Miles Davis, Jane’s Addiction, Pearl Jam, or others. Three decades on, the club has also been a popular performance Mecca for other entertainment, including stage productions, comedy shows, and performance art. Among the club’s unique features are comfortable booth seating, full-service and draft bar, and a menu that features a modest array of dishes to keep appetites satisfied. The Roxy’s open dance floor and superb sound facilities offer fans one of the most intimate entertainment experiences around. There’s also “On The Rox,” an on-site, after-hours facility that has been the setting for some of Hollywood’s hottest parties. Located above The Roxy and overlooking Sunset Blvd., “On The Rox” features its own full-service bar and DJ booth with proprietary sound system. Always in touch with its past, The Roxy lets fans glimpse at the legacy when they enter the club, thanks to an extensive collection of artist performance photos that adorn the club’s walls.
The Roxy Theatre (often just The Roxy) is the lengendary nightclub located on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California.
It was opened on September 23, 1973 by Elmer Valentine and Lou Adler along with original partners David Geffen, Elliot Roberts and Peter Asher. They took over building previously occupied by a strip club owned by Chuck Landis called the Largo. (Adler was actually responsible for bringing the stage play Rocky Horror Show to the United States, and it opened its first American run at The Roxy Theatre in 1974, before it was made into the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show the next year.)
Hundreds of famous and yet-to-be-famous acts such as Nirvana (band), Tori Amos, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Al Stewart, Jane’s Addiction and David Bowie have played this highly prestigious venue.
The small On The Rox bar above the club has hosted a wide variety of debauchery in its history; it was a regular hangout for John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Alice Cooper and Keith Moon during Lennon’s “lost weekend” in 1975, and in the 1980s hosted parties arranged by “Hollywood Madam” Heidi Fleiss.
According to LA.com, On The Rox “may be forever known as the club where John Belushi partied before fatally ODing. That may sound like a sordid reason for the club’s fame, but it only underscores the hard-partying reputation that befits a room equipped with two stripper poles. Recently, it has hosted private DJ nights as well as after-parties following the shows downstairs; on a Tuesday night not long ago, all three members of buzz band Kings of Leon were spotted heading upstairs to rock out with the Mooney Suzuki after their Roxy show.”
