Farewell To Freddy

The month of Camp Freddy Mayhem has become this Rock N Roll machine that has been the talk of the town! It’s taken over like no one could have ever imagined. It started off great as we were so excited to be able to hold one of our Roxy contests to find the lucky openers - which allowed local bands to actually warm up the stage for Freddy. What a great opportunity. And now, we’ve had FIVE sold out shows - countless special guests - and killer set lists. Over the past 4 weeks, we’ve seen Tommy Lee, Terry Nunn, Chester of Linkin Park, Brandon Boyd of Incubus, Chino of the Deftones, Jerry Cantrell, Lemmy Kilmister, B-Real and Sen Dog, Tiffany, Metal Skool, Cory from Slipknot/Stone Sour, Tom Morrello as well as our house favorite Mark McGrath - to name a few! On top of the Sex Pistols Paul Cook, Glen Matlock and Steve Jones and GnR legends Duff and Slash! Insanity. We hate to rub it in, because the Freddy Finale tonight is of course sold out - but for the lucky, this show will take the cake! Every Thursday the chaos starts early - so make sure you stay tuned as Nic and I twitter the day away. We’ll keep you updated as always, on all the nitty gritty secrets. Thanks to all the guests and the guys - as well as the fans who have made the Roxy their nightlife staple for the month. We hope to see you all soon.

As music industry folks travel in from all over the country - we are excited to be able to welcome you all to come see the legendary Roxy at its finest. As CIC starts, we invite you all to come check out a a few of our best shows that will be hitting the Strip,just as you hit town. To show our camaraderie we welcome all you CIC folks to flash your badges and check out our shows for free! On February 7th we have a special showcase from Ironworks Music which includes favorite Rocco Deluca known for his radio hit “Colorful” as well as for his ground breaking tour documentary with Kiefer Sutherland. February 6th, we are so excited to have hot indie act Biirdie - who’s debut album is making waves across the LA area and beyond. Described as “A sort of California alt-country-rock that you can’t not love. Reminiscent of early Bright Eyes. Alt rock perfection.” Also on this show, HOT Reeve Carney- who’s acclaimed live album is an indie rock staple and Sundance breakout musician Lukas Haas. So come rock out and enjoy your stay!

Monsters Are Waiting

Taking on an indie rock sound that has hints of new wave, Monsters Are Waiting feature Annalee Fery (vocals, keyboard), Eric Gardner (drums), Jonathan Siebels (guitar, bass), and Andrew Clark (bass, guitar). The Echo Park, CA, band — whose name comes from one of their own songs — began in Los Angeles in 2005, playing parties and clubs in the area. Those shows led to a tour with stellastarr* and Editors. In October 2005, Monsters Are Waiting released a self-titled EP through their website and Amoeba Records, followed in July 2006 by their debut full-length, Fascination, on Retone. In November 2006, they played the CMJ Music Marathon before a national tour with She Wants Revenge and Pretty Girls Make Graves.

Louis XIV

Louis XIV is a quartet Indie rock group from San Diego, California, formed in April 2003. They were formed from the band Convoy. Their first album, The Best Little Secrets Are Kept, was released in March 2005, following the release of their EP Illegal Tender in January of that year. Their first single was titled “Finding Out True Love Is Blind,” and was featured on both the EP and album. Their music features rough, primal rock and evocative lyrics replete with double entendres.

megan(talent buyer), kyra(new media) and i all made it out to sxsw this year. the girls went early in the week and laid the ground work seeing almost every possible band there was to see, and took notes. you guys were awesome! i came in on the friday at noon. this would be the first time the roxy has made a team effort in austin for the annual “cochella meets the french quarter” mixed with a little(or a lot depending who you were with)drinking talking and walking, called south by southwest. it was an eye and ear opening experience. i already thought there were so many bands out there being at the roxy day in and day out, but there must have been 1000’s of bands in austin. all kinds, from metal to rap to electronica but i felt it was mostly indie rock. there was music coming out of every building, bar, restaurant, nook, cranny, crevice, alleys and sidewalks. i definitely was on the verge on sensory overload the whole time i was there. the bands that i like the most were #1 the black angels, love them. they killed there show at antones. also liked tokyo police club and architecture in helsinki. i saw peaches for the first time live in a club that was soo packed i didn’t even attempt to get on to the floor, she rocked it. my highlight was taking my 13 and 14 year old brothers to see mickey avalon at some way out club at 1am. cobrasnake met us at the backdoor and got us right in and after hanging with my brothers mickey and kev e hit the stage and a rocked a six song set ending with jane fonda( produced by cisco my other little brother)which had the whole crowd singing “shake it little mama…” all in all we had a great time doing 6th street, met a lot of great new people and found some old ones again too. to all the artists, bands, venues, sponsors and labels, and the city of austin. it was really fun and can’t wait till next year, thanks texas for something other than george bush. please let us know your sxsw story and please let us know any and all bands you saw there and would love to see at the roxy!
