Some Under Armour Football Gear I Bought During My Training in New York

Last month, I was sent to New York to conduct a special football training for some middle-school kids in the Bronx. It took me only a few hours for the whole preparation and the training itself, so I decided to take a walk around the city and visit a few sports stores afterward.

I was expecting to have a lazy walk with window-shopping, and actually, it had been like this until I found a small local football shop that was selling the football gear of my favorite brand. What’s my favorite brand you ask? It’s Under Armour. I didn’t count the time I had spent in the shop, but eventually, I ended with the whole pile of great football gear.

My Under Armour Football Gear Collection

And this is what I’ve bought and what I think about the products after using them for a while:

UA Spotlight Men’s Football Gloves appeared to be very comfortable. They reduce twisting of the fingers and provide decent support for the hand. Also, they are seamless and made of Heat Gear fabric, so my hands remain dry during the game. I have been using them for three weeks so far, and feel very happy with this purchase. I made this decision by reading the reviews at Hope, they will stay in such a good condition for a while.

– UA Gameday Armour Arm Sleeves also seem to be a very good choice. They are very light and comfortable. Since the fabric absorbs sweat I feel completely dry during the game. A few days ago I was hit while practicing and fell down on my elbow. Thanks to the armor sleeve my elbow didn’t get any particular damage, so it really gives decent protection and makes you feel more secure about your health and life on the field.

– UA Home & Away Chin Pad Pack was on sale, so I’ve bought it only for $6.74, which is half of the regular price. The chin pad is very soft, constructed in stretch neoprene and Heat Gear fabric. It gives extra protection and comfort for my chin, so I like using it both for the training and the games.

– UA Armour Fuse Chin Strap was the last item I’ve bought that day. Even though I have another Under Armour chin strap, but I could not resist to a very generous offer (I bought it only for $5 instead of $20!). I haven’t used this one yet, but it seems to be very strong and convenient. The internal foam pad is removable and washable, which is very important to me, as I like keeping my things clean.

I hope my review can help other people to choose their football gear. Under Armour is not the only sports brand I like, but when it comes to the football protection, I prefer to buy the products of trusted and well-known companies. My motto is: ‘Play hard but stay on the safe side‘. Let me know what your motto is by commenting below. Want more travel tips? Check my latest posts here!

The Five Most Overlooked Items You Almost Forgot to Pack on Your International Trip

Traveling internationally can be a potentially life-changing experience; however, it can also be incredibly nerve-racking if you don’t pay close attention what you pack.

After all, not all countries abroad boast the comforts of home. Meanwhile, not bringing all the right items can quickly turn your trip into a headache if everything doesn’t go according to plan. Given the shaky nature of travel these days, let’s be honest: rarely do your trips go 100% the way you imagined them.

Let’s break down the five most overlooked items that many first-time international travelers neglect to bring along on their journeys.

Proper Eyewear

Although glasses and sunglasses may seem like a no-brainer for those with vision issues, you should strive to have a fresh pair of each regardless of where you’re going. Think about it: the summer sun can be brutal regardless of where you’re traveling, meaning you need to protect your eyes accordingly.

Also, this tip is especially important for contact-wearers as bringing contact solution on your trips can be a hassle given restrictions on liquid items. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you have no access to solution and you have to rely on a pair of eyeglasses with an ancient prescription. Thankfully, online shops such as Glasses Gallery can help you find the ideal eyewear depending on where you’re headed.

Must-Have Medication

If you’re going on a long-term trip, you need to have all of your prescriptions in order prior to traveling. Don’t assume you can purchase your daily medications in another country: laws regarding medicine and travel vary greatly from place to place. Also make sure that you bring along the written prescriptions for medications you might need as it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to TSA.

Luggage Organizers

Given the fact that many airlines are trying to nickel and dime today’s travelers, you should keep as much as you can in your carry-on to avoid unnecessary luggage fees. For example, packing cubes represent a smart solution to maximize the space within your bag. Likewise, having travel-sized liquid containers on deck can help organize your clutter and keep you from worrying about having your bag searched.

In short, the best way to avoid potential delays is to make sure that your bag is well-organized.

Document Protection

Simply put, you’re going to need to make sure you have somewhere to safely store your passport and any other essential documents while traveling. Rather than simply keep such documents in your wallet or purse, consider a designated passport holder that’s out of sight but can be kept on you at all times. Having your passport well-hidden can give you peace of mind as you don’t have to worry about potentially losing it in your luggage.

Mobile Chargers

In case of a layover, it’s important to have a mobile charger for your laptop and smartphone to keep yourself in contact with the outside world. Whether it’s for entertainment or business, such items are absolute lifesavers when you’re stuck without an outlet. Such items can be purchased on the cheap from sites like Amazon; however, read reviews carefully before purchasing as some third party charges are prone to problems.

Perhaps the best way enjoy your international trips is by packing properly. Having these essentials on deck will help you avoid any potential problems and actually spend more time enjoying your travels.

Top Tips for Renting a Yacht

Yachting is a fantastic experience, particularly if you are doing it with friends and family. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to own a yacht. Luckily for you, however, it is easy enough to find a Miami yacht charter company, which means that you can enjoy the high life at an affordable price. So what you do you need to know about chartering a yacht.

  1. Make Sure You Reserve on Time

There are only so many yachts available, and the best ones are often booked months, if not years in advance. It is quite common, for instance, for people to come back year on year. Hence, the minute you know you want to charter a yacht, you should book it. If you delay, you could end up with something you don’t really want.

  1. Think about Your Needs

Yachts come in all types and sizes, with all types of extras as well. Perhaps you want to sail yourself, for instance, in which case you may need a license. Perhaps you just want to go really fast, in which case you need something with a bigger engine. Or maybe you actually want to sail, which means you need something with a yacht. You also have to think about the onboard amenities, such as how many staff members you need, whether you want to have a fishing spot on the boat, whether you want to take part in water sports such as scuba diving, and so on. If you’re unsure, then speak to the charter company about the possibilities.

  1. Make Sure the Yacht Is Well-Maintained

This can be a bit difficult, particularly if you book online from a distance. Hence, make sure that you have a rental agreement that gives you the right to cancel if things are not up to scratch. When you come to the rental company, if the office looks tidy, professional, and well-maintained, then the yacht likely will be as well.

  1. Use Maps and Charts

It is very important that the latest charts are present on the yacht. This enables you to navigate, particularly if you are sailing yourself. If you have a captain on board, then the charts are very interesting to ponder over, so you can see where you’re going.

  1. Safety Must Come First

Safety always has to be at the forefront of what you do. Make sure, therefore, that the yacht has the relevant safety equipment on board. In fact, yachts are not allowed to be used if they don’t meet certain standards.

  1. Check Communication Channels

You can expect that a good yacht also has various communication methods present. The most important one, however, is the old fashioned radio. Should something go completely wrong, then you can always contact the emergency services by using this radio, which should have a link to the coast guard, for instance.

These are the key thins to be aware of when you want to rent a yacht. Mainly, however, you should look forward to a great time.

Udu Drum: My Best Souvenir from Africa

Travelling is my passion, and all my friends know that. Every time I go for a new trip they make me a long list of gifts and souvenirs to bring. Usually, there are magnets, postcards, local alcohol or chocolate, but once, going to safari in Africa, I have received a very unexpected order.

Bring me an Udu Drum’, asked my best friend, when he heard I was going to Nigeria.

Really? A whole drum in my luggage? Are you kidding me? Actually, I was expecting something small. Can I bring you an African tribal mask instead?

No, I want an Udu drum, it’s special for Nigerians. Find a small one to fit into your backpack

In case you didn’t know, Udu drum is also called the Nigerian-origin Udu Utar drum. Well, my friend seemed to be very determined and excited about my new travel destination, so it was hard to argue.

After my wonderful photo safari tour, I had a few more days in Nigeria. I made friends with a local guide and decided to ask him, where I can find that special souvenir. I pointed out that I need a real one, not a toy for tourists since my friend was really fond of ethnic music. My guide smiled at me.

So, you want some local experience’, he said. ‘Let me take you for a trip. Tonight is the night’.
I thought we would go to some local market, but surprisingly, we went to see a rural Igbo tribe, the ingenious inhabitants of Nigeria, instead.

Although Christianity is the main religion of Nigeria, rural tribes still believe in Great Spirit and perform feasts and ceremonies to honor the Earth. I was the only white person to attend a special ceremony conducted that night, and it was a magical and very intimidating experience. All the tribe, wearing little clothes, traditional body painting and big masks made of wood and fabric gathered around a big open fire. They spoke the language I couldn’t understand, but I really enjoyed its sound. And then I heard the first beats of the drums. I always love listening to drums and percussion. Gracious Igbo women went dancing around the fire, playing some kinds of water jugs with additional holes. The jugs seemed to be very light, as they were made of clay. The women’s palms and fingers were tapping in a fast rhythm, and soon more instruments joined the music jam.

‘This is ùdù, which is translated from the Igbo language as ‘vessel’’, explained me the guide.
‘I think, I need two of those’, said I impressed by the wild tribal sound and the energy. ‘Can I buy them here?’

In a few weeks, I came home with two jugs in my backpack. My friend still plays his udu drum in his band. As for me, I take my udu from the shelf time to time, especially, when I am being nostalgic and want to recall my traveling adventures. It always reminds me that the world is much bigger than it seems, way more diverse and magical.

Disaster on the Dunes: How to Avoid Some Classic Off-Roading Mistakes

Off-roading can be awesome fun but you have to try and rein in that enthusiasm in places and think safety when it’s needed if you are going to enjoy an adventure that doesn’t end in disaster.

There are a number of classic driver errors and an unintentional failure to prepare your vehicle that can combine to put you more at risk than you need to be, so here are some tips and insights on how to prepare for some off-roading fun without any dramas.

Before you go

If you are behind the wheel of a vehicle like the Jeep Grand Cherokee you are going to want to put it through its paces and have some off-roading fun but you need to do a few things before you head for the dunes or into the mountains.

The first thing to do is to plan a route that you are going to take and then make sure that at least one other person knows where you are heading and when you are expected to be back.

You simply don’t know if you are going to end up in a heap of unexpected trouble and if you find yourself stranded, injured or in general need of some assistance if you haven’t told someone, where you are going, there could be a long wait for help to arrive.

Social media makes it really easy to post a message to friends and family, so at least they can look out for you as well as checking out how much fun you are having.

Check out the route

Once you have decided on a specific off-road route you are going to take make sure you don’t make the rookie error of not scoping out the terrain beforehand.

You don’t want to find out about a steep incline that your vehicle can’t handle by plummeting down it and cause you and your vehicle some potential damage. If you know someone who has already driven that route, talk to them about the potential hazards, if not, try to get a good vantage point to look at where you are going to be headed or even use Google Earth to carry out a quick survey of the area.

Check your tires

It can’t be stressed enough how important your tires are to the safety and performance of your vehicle.

Using worn-out tires is never a good idea but it becomes a dangerous one if you think you can go off-roading on a dodgy set of tires. Make sure they are in good condition and also check that you have them at the right pressure for the terrain and conditions you will be facing.

Be wary of water

A big part of off-roading fun is to take your vehicle across challenging terrain, including water hazards.

The problem comes when you find yourself stuck in the mud or worse still, you get into serious trouble because the water is too deep and your engine’s air intake sucks in water.

Always test the water depth before negotiating it in your vehicle. Standing water often manages to hide the sort of mud that anchors you down and if you don’t gauge the depth you are running the risk of losing control altogether and breaking down in the water.

If you follow these simple steps and rules they are going to help make sure you have positive stories to tell when you get home, rather than talking about a disaster that might have been avoidable.

Research Reveals Significant Health Damage Following Lazy Breaks

UK online travel agency, Sunshine, has completed a piece of research to reveal the health impact of a two week holiday in which people do nothing. Worryingly, just two weeks of inactivity had very significant consequences on the body, including an expanding waistline and loss of muscle mass. They also found that, in order for fitness levels to return to pre-holiday levels, people need longer than two weeks. The travel agency is encouraging people to keep active even if they are on holiday, choosing activities for which they have to move, and continuing to take 10,000 steps a day.

Many people consider spending two weeks lying on a beach the ultimate relaxation and opportunity to recharge their batteries. However, research completed by UK online holiday company Sunshine has shown that doing this causes significant changes to both metabolism and muscle mass. In fact, it increases the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other reasons for premature death.

In the research, the Sunshine team surveyed 28 young adults, all fit and healthy. Their average age was 25. The participants were asked to implement an 80% drop in activity levels, lowering their daily 10,000 steps to just 1,500. Following a two week period, researchers noted:

  • A 0.8 pound drop in lean muscle mass.
  • A 1 centimeter expansion of the waistline.
  • An increase in fat on the liver.
  • An increase in levels of bad cholesterol.
  • A decline in cardio-respiratory and overall fitness levels.

Of particular interest was the fact that participants needed more than two weeks in order to return to their fitness levels.

The Sunshine lead researcher explains: “What we saw was that a two week period of sedentary behavior is incredibly detrimental to overall levels of fitness and health, even in healthy, active young people. If this isn’t addressed, then they risk becoming obese, as well as developing a variety of other health problems.”

What the research also showed was that the 10,000 steps a day message continues to be very valid today. Other research has demonstrated that if that step count was maintained but other fitness activities were dropped when on holiday, the negative consequences were not as significant.

According to health experts, the average adult should work out for about 150 minutes each week, but very few achieve this. In fact, research has shown that many only get 30 minutes of activity a week, if not less. What this new piece of research clearly demonstrates, therefore, is just how important it actually is that people are physically active, even if they are on holiday.

The Sunshine team came together with a number of medical researchers, who have described inactivity as the greatest silent killer in the United Kingdom. It can cause a range of diseases, many of them deadly, and they can creep up on people unnoticed.

“The importance of physical activity is true for entire families,” adds the Sunshine researcher. “While it is certainly true that people look forward to their two weeks abroad because they can finally just do nothing, we want to send the message out that people should try to at least take 10,000 steps a day. This is also something they should teach their children.”

He adds:

“Being physically active on holiday is easy and fun. We aren’t suggesting that people should suddenly only book in hotels that have fully functional gyms! There are lots of fun things that people can do instead. Swimming in the pool, playing beach volleyball, or even just throwing the ball to each other is enough to increase physical activity and keep the body healthy at the same time.”

Luxury holidays’ is a term that many associate with a reality well beyond their financial reach. It is also a word that can conjure up images of water bungalows and upscale restaurants. Travel Out of Season

It is common for travel rates to soar during high season. If you choose to travel during the summer months, holidays or festive seasons, you will certainly incur high costs. On the other hand, booking a luxury holiday in the low season can be a risk in itself. You may encounter bad weather once you have already committed to paying for the trip. However, you will avoid big crowds as well as the expenses. Around this time, hotels are also slightly cheaper.

Book Ahead and Opt for Discounts

When traveling, only select the seats that are offered at a discount rate. Make the most of the special offers that are offered from time to time. This will enable you to snag a low-fare. Many airlines make special discount offers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. As such, you can choose any of these three days to travel. Sometimes, airfares do not sell as quickly as anticipated and last-minute travel deals are generated. Additionally, some of the best airline credit cards can reward you with free or discounted flights. It is also important to be on the lookout for this.

Pick a Package

Choosing a luxury holiday package will provide added value to your trip. By specializing in such travel and destination products, you will get better deals for your hotel stays, flights, transfers and more. A package will also enable you to know the full cost upfront, even before you depart.

Stay at a Home Rental Instead of a Hotel

In the past, traveling was always associated with staying at a hotel. However, times have changed and good home and apartment rentals are taking over the travel market. They come at affordable costs and have a comfort and convenience that you will never get in a hotel. You will not need to incur unnecessary costs such as dining and entertainment. It is advisable to book your luxury holiday with a highly reputable home apartment company.

Understand the Currency Exchange Rates

Currencies are always fluctuating. Therefore, you should choose to travel at a time when your dollar can be stretched to the limit. Understanding the currency exchange rates for the country you intend to travel to will allow you to make smart financial decisions. There are free travel apps and online tools that will enable you to keep up with currency exchange rates.

With these tips, you should be able to go on that trip that you have always wanted. You no longer have an excuse for your lack of adventure. Your finances do not have to limit you when you are planning a vacation. Remember, timing is everything! Ensure that you travel only when you can get the most out of your trip.

Cologne in Germany – 3 things you should not miss!

Germany. The land of Weissbier, Schnitzel and Lederhosen … NOT! Germany is an incredibly diverse country with countless options of things to do, to see and – of course – to eat. One of the most fascinating cities to visit is Cologne! The country’s fourth largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia will blow your mind with historic points of interest, one of the most vibrant music and party scenes Germany has to offer and delicious culinary experiences. Here are 3 travel tips for Cologne / Germany which should be right on top of your to-do list!

1. Travel through 2000 years of history and 100 m up into the sky!

If you’re into history, Cologne is the place to be in Germany. In fact, you are visiting one the oldest city in the country! The first recorded urban settlement – which later evolved into this bustling city – dates back to 35 AD. Of course, the Romans meddled in the history of Cologne and turned it into the capital of Germania around 85 AD. Hence, the first tip for all those hobby historians traveling to Cologne: Check out the “Roman-Germanic Museum”! One of the many exhibitions of the museum is called “The legacy of the Romans” displaying the 2000-year-old history of the city. After having embarked on this trip back in time, the next highlight is just around the corner! No stay in Cologne is complete without a visit to the Cologne Cathedral. This epic building is the symbol of the city. All in all, it took around 600 years to build this monumental structure with its amazing Gothic architecture; still today, it is the second highest building in Cologne. Tip: Head up the south tower and enjoy the scenic view over the city from 100 m above ground.

2. Time to dine!

Cologne is a paradise for foodies and beer lovers! The beer of choice in Cologne is called a “Kölsch”! Served in tiny 0.2 cl glasses, this light and very delicious beer is THE all-time drink for the locals. Before gulping down a couple of those, you should get some substance in your belly. If you want to try out a typical Cologne specialty, order a portion of “Himmel und Ääd” (Heaven and Earth) in one of the many restaurants in the old town. For veggies and vegans, the restaurant “Ecco” close to Chlodwigplatz in the Suedstadt is one place you should pay a visit! The food is plant-based and everything is cooked from scratch. If you fancy gourmet dining on the highest level, Cologne is home to one of ten restaurants with three stars by Michelin. The Vendôme is located just a few minutes outside the city and will transport you into another culinary world! It is hands down the perfect place to take the lady of your dreams for dinner! If you don’t have a date, Cologne is also home to one of the most exclusive escort service in Germany – all you need to do is pick up the phone.

3. Dance like no one’s watching!

Cologne is one of the coolest places in Germany to party your hat off! For one, the city has a long carnival tradition. The carnival season begins on November 11 and continues until April. Cologne is also known for its amazing nightlife! Countless clubs, bars, lounges and festivals are just waiting to be discovered. You could start the evening with some nice cocktails in one of the hippest cocktail bars in Germany: The Shepheard. This very laid-back place is featured among the world best bars, known for its amazing choice of high end cocktails. Not as fancy by far but always fun is the “Sixpack” in the Belgium quarter! You’ll meet a young creative crowd, making this funky bar a great place to get in touch with the locals. When the clock strikes midnight, it’s time to check out some of the clubs in town! One key venue for the vibrant techno scene of the city is the Artheater – several floors, a chill out area, a bombastic sound system and a very energetic crowd will suck you in a spit you back out when the sun of the next day is well over the horizon. Of course, these are just some of the many possibilities this mind-blowing city offers. Cologne will enchant, fascinate, and thrill you in so many ways! Falling in love with this open-minded, arty, and cultural diverse city is easy. Just go there and enjoy every moment!
