Res (pronounced ‘reese’) grew up listening to her parents’ Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Teddy Pendergrass albums at home. She also developed an appreciation for groups like the Eurythmics and Pearl Jam while attending the Academy of Notre Dame - so its now wonder why Res sidesteps any and all genres to produce a truly unique musical experience!

Guitarist/singer/songwriter Bob Mould was initially a member of Hüsker Dü, one of the most influential American bands of the ’80s. Hüsker Dü was a post-hardcore punk band that helped define the sound and ideals of alternative rock. After Hüsker Dü broke up, Mould signed a solo contract with Virgin Records in 1988. The following year, he released his first solo album, Workbook, which represented a major shift in sonic direction. Workbook was an introspective collection, featuring keyboards, acoustic guitars, and even strings.

As longtime music aficionados, the members of the modern rock troop Mae are always listening for a song that makes everything stand still. “For us, that’s what music is about,†says singer-guitarist Dave Elkins, who formed the band with drummer Jacob Marshall, and is now joined by guitarist Zach Gehring, bassist Mark Padgett and keyboardist Rob Sweitzer. “I remember listening to Matthew Sweet on my Walkman as a kid and feeling like I was on cloud nine. That’s what we want to do for other people. We want to write songs that people connect to.â€
Part One, “The Truth”
Four young gentlemen were born to 8 parents. One from New York, One from Louisiana, and the rest from California. Through a series of fortunate events (broken bones, concussions, divorces, successful marriages, siblings, fishing trips, and dreams), the boys all found their way to Los Angeles. The California boys had already known each other from University, and moved there together. The New Yorker moved because it was time to move, and the New Orleanite, moved because of the weather. Then through jobs, and girlfriends the fellows came to realize that they wanted to do something more with their hands, so they built bridges, and verses, and pre-choruses. The 4 guys are now The Deadly Syndrome, where all have a hand in writing the music.
My sister and I flew all the way out to Baltimore, MD to catch the Beastie Boys at The Virgin Music Festival but much to our shagrin our friend got a little sick and we only caught almost 3 full songs… enough to wet the craving but not enough to kill the hunger. So when we heard that our cousin bought a few tickets to The Greek we were thrilled.
A. We could catch a full set.
B. Totally a Greek virgin and have wanted to check a proper show out.
The show was masterful and we were surrounded by uber excited people thrashing around, people tossing their hair in other’s faces inappropriately, and people jumping into the aisles just to dance but quickly being kiboshed by the security. The Greek is a great outdoor theatre that I highly recommend! And The Beastie Boys may be a little older but they rock like the 20-somethings that brought it hard in 1986. Gotta love it!
Often coined, “the next big thing,” Esthero’s music has been called “the best form of introduction to trip-hop, though her music pretty much touches on all kinds of genres, from pop to jazz.”
“Music on Red Bull.” Without hesitating, that’s how 17-year-old Kevin Jonas describes the hyper-adrenalized sounds he’s created with his two brothers, 13-year-old Nicholas and 16-year-old Joseph, on the Jonas Brothers’ debut album, It’s About Time. And it’s no wonder since the boys’ influences include an eclectic mix of artists ranging from the Ramones to the Jackson 5 to the Modern Lovers–all purveyors of tight, catchy anthems. One thing is for sure, the Jonas Brothers are all ready to keep the momentum going strong. “We go crazy on stage!” says Kevin. “It’s so much fun!”

Growing up a skinny preacher’s kid in Spokane, Washington, Tyrone Wells was discouraged from listening to pop music and only exposed to gospel. Little did he know a decade later, the roots of soul would become a key element of his passionate, irresistible and utterly unique songs. Combining pop, soul, and rock, Tyrone sings about true love, war and heartbreak with equal power and sincerity, coming across as a voice for a generation that’s both idealistic and confused.

The Puppini Sisters are a trio of the Italian Marcella Puppini and English Stephanie O’Brien and Kate Mullins. The group was founded by Marcella after she was inspired by the film Belleville Rendezvous. The Puppini Sisters’ debut single, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, is a cover of the iconic hit single by The Andrews Sisters, and although the three are not actually related; they name themselves so in tribute to The Andrews Sisters.
Storming onto the music scene nearly a decade ago, Joe Satriani has been widely recognized as the archetypal post-modern hero.Since his emergence in 1986 with a self-released, self-titled debut album, Joe has become the most recognizable guitar voice of his time, earning his place alongside the great masters of rock guitar. As an instrumental artist in a pop-dominated field, Satriani’s accomplishments are even more remarkable: He is perhaps the most successful rock instrumentalist in recent history, selling millions of records and consistently packing concert halls - yet always preserving a strong musical vision, as well as the respect of fellow musicians and forward-thinking music fans worldwide.
As a gifted singer and a versatile pianist with no formal training, Sara Bareilles burst onto the pop scene with a naturally skilled voice ranging from powerful and soulful to sweet and gentle. The lyrical themes of the album, entitled Little Voice and released in July 2007, covered her past relationships, insecurities, and inner battles with trying to trust her instincts.
