Come Join Us For A.i. At On the Rox

We all know that the SSMF is taking over the Strip full force this weekend! With the help of our friends at Red Bull, we are transforming ON THE ROX into a super swanky VIP lounge - but what good is that, without a great band? Enter, A.i. They’ve been one of our favorite bands for a very long time and we couldn’t be happier to have them rock n roll all night long with us. This is a guestlist event, but wanted to make sure we gave you all a chance to attend as well. So, please RSVP below! Please note that the event is 21+ only, and you must present a photo I.D at the door.

Join The Cartel

Possibly best known for their stint as MTV’s first “Band in a Bubble” (They were challenged to write, record and produce a full length album in the 20 days while living inside the bubble, while fans were allowed to access 23 strategically placed web cameras 24/7) they’ve definitely managed so make their mark in the real world. With Cartel’s brand of pop/punk/rock - you can’t help but want to move. Come move with us…the strip will be rocking, rest assured. Tickets, HERE.

Travis Barker and DJ AM Get Ready To Conquer

If their ever was a hybrid all-star team…superstar DJ, DJ AM and epic drummer Travis Barker who have joined to collectively become TRVSDJ-AM - are IT. Everyone is taking notice of the brewing residency, including the LA Times. Come check it out - tickets here or 310 278 9457.

“The star turntablist and the former Blink-182 drummer have been doing their scratch ‘n’ bash for few years now, popping up at clubs around the country and attracting guest turns from the likes of Too $hort, Paul Wall, Fabolous and Lil’ Jon. L.A. being their home base, they’re expecting the roster of drop-ins to expand considerably.

DJ AM is tight-lipped on their identities, but says he’s expecting some “beyond-legends that I’m amazed I’m going to get to share the stage with…. We both have a lot of friends who are musicians who are gonna be around, so we’re just gonna kind of wing it and see how it goes. Whoever comes, just put ‘em on blast, basically, and throw ‘em onstage.”

David Garza Added to James Hall Show

James Hall - already amazing. He’s such a killer performer and i’ll watch him anytime, anyplace. But now, we’ve added DAVID GARZA to the show. A Largo regular, and the man behind so many artists we know and love. This show is shaping up to pretty epic…and we hear their are still a few secrets in store. Ooh, i love surprises! Crytsal Castles Gets Some MTV Love

Crystal Castles Live at The Roxy
We’re still recovering from the Crytsal Castles mania - and apparently MTV is too!
Check out the review of the show!

Laws of economics (stay with me here) state that scarcity creates value, and Crystal Castles’ anonymity as the anti-rockstars only made me desperately want to know everything about them. You’ll be hard-pressed to find clear photos of either member, they shoot down any suggestions of fame, and they always understate their own popularity.

But on the other hand, they did add another Roxy show two nights later due to overwhelming demand, and they are also the newest group to enter the ring up against the big record labels. You can find a full quality, fully tagged and fully free mp3 of “Crimewave” for download on Nine Inch Nails’ Web site. After my encounter with Crystal Castles, it’s clear that they’re a shining example of a band that is truly in it for the music. Expect much more from Crystal Castles in the upcoming months, because whether they like it or not, they’re going to be huge.

Sunset Strip Music Fest In Full Swing

We have begun to count down the days to the FIRST Annual Sunset Strip Music Fest! It’s been a LOT of hard work in the making (props to Nic!) and its really amazing to watch it come to fruition. All the clubs on the Strip really stepped up their games to bring the hottest talent on the planet! We don’t mean to brag, but have you seen our lineup? Tickets are going fast (obviously) so don’t miss out on this historical event. Did we mention our weekend consists of HOT HOT HEAT, THE DEADLY SYNDROME, and THE SHYS on one night and THE 88, SATISFACTION, and DERBY on the next! I can’t wait. And just a heads up to stay tuned, today we will be announcing a really great HHH contest - to make your experience as HOT as can be.

Camp Freddy Lives On

Camp Freddy Live at The Roxy
Our little residency that could continues to get some pretty great press and is still buzzing! We miss the Camp Freddy guys and couldn’t be happier with all the love they have received - they really killed it and we can’t wait to have them back! Check out this great article from The Sunset Strip site!

One of the most bizarre and interesting moments of the evening came when the Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock was joined by Tiffany (yes, “I Think We’re Alone Now” Tiffany) for a pretty rockin’ version of the Pistols’ “Pretty Vacant.” Never thought I’d be applauding Tiffany for a gritty performance of a Sex Pistols’ tune, but there is was, on stage at the Roxy.
Also in on the fun were Incubus’ Brandon Boyd, who guested on “Good Times, Bad Times,” and Fuel’s Brett Scallions. And offering up some of the highest octane star-power of the evening was Rage Against The Machine and Los Angeles’ own Tom Morello playing guitar on “Roadhouse Blues” and “Brown Sugar,” then sitting in on drums for a rousing finale of The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog.”
Camp Freddy’s sold out May run may be done, but my ears are still ringing from all of that great rock and roll performed by so many of the world’s best. The show was such a success that I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some more dates in the near future. But those of us who were there to witness it in person have a little piece of rock and roll history, raw, unscripted, and loud, etched into our soul!

Russell Brand Gets Ready To Say Farewell

So, it might not be the most appropriate of Father’s day gifts - but Russell’s comedy show is something not to be missed. Its the grand finale, and after a solid 6 week, sold out run - we’re sure our favorite Brit will take it out with a bang. We know he’s been the subject of a hefty about of press since the run began, check out the latest one written by Chris Lee and latimes.com

Clad head to toe in skin-tight Johnny Cash black, Russell Brand mounted the stage at Hollywood’s venerable rock venue the Roxy Theatre on a recent Sunday looking every inch the louche, preening British rock star of archetype. His haystack of “Edward Scissorhands”-esque hair: impressively vertical. His winkle-picker boots: pointy and sharp. Brand’s shirt was unbuttoned nearly to his waist, revealing a cluster of silver Gypsy medallions as he looked up to face the capacity crowd.

Then he started talking. Because Brand — who ends a six-week “residence” of sold-out Roxy dates Sunday night (several were added “due to overwhelming demand,” according to the venue website) — had come to rock the house with jokes, not music.

And for all you folks that tuned in to see Russell on Leno on Tuesday, we don’t have rats. Ghosts? Questionable. Rats? Negative.
