2009 was a big year for both Parachute and Safety Suit - and while, based on names alone - it makes us giggle a bit that these two bands are on tour together - musically, it’s such a treat! You’ve heard the hits on tv shows, commercials, and have most likely seen them open for your favorite band (collectively: OAR, Switchfoot, Matt Nathanson, 3 Doors Down, The Script, Seether, Collective Soul) - and it’s cool to see them work their way up to headliner and take our stage for the first time!

We’ve been so lucky over the past few years to have one of our very own - as our house photographer. Chances are, if you’ve seen a great shot circulating or have seen some epic ones on the blog - credit goes to one man. Help us celebrate Erik Voake’s collection of “365 A Year At The Roxy” at the opening on JANUARY 28th. We’re so proud to be a part of the event, and celebrate some amazing shots. Join us!!
When your job involves starring at a calendar, it’s amazing how fast it goes by. It seems that we blinked and poof - 2009 was gone. In all the chaos we couldn’t put together a proper recap in time, but this year has been one for the books. We welcomed everyone from The Dead Weather, Pete Yorn, LMFAO, and My Chemical Romance - to Weezer, The All-American Rejects, The Mighty Boosh, Dead By Sunrise, Camp Freddy, and Shwayze. Had ground breaking shows that helped make La Roux, Mayer Hawthorne, Noah and the Whale, Mike Posner, and The Temper Trap names around town and so so so many more in between. We are excited to continue you to bring you some of your favs, as well as introduce you to some new tunes you haven’t been hipped to yet. Thanks again for such a great year - as always find us on twitter @theroxy, and on facebook (facebook.com/theroxy)! Viva 2010!!
One of the true indie darlings of 2009 are taking the stage next week - and we cannot wait to see them live. We’ve been hearing the buzz from the Eastsiders for a while - and they are even featured on everyone’s favorite soundtrack (’Twilight’ of course!). Check it next week, along with our local favs Chasing Kings and Amaad Wasif. KROQ Locals Only never fails!
Any quick google search lets you know that Mike Posner is a student first, and a musician second. We fully respect a man that wears many hats, especially someone as talented as Mike Posner. We can’t wait to see the kind of show Mike brings to the table - but we see big things for him since he’s learning the ropes in excellent company - Kid Cudi, Gym Class Heroes, Wale, and Big Sean to name a few. Check him out Live At The Roxy with Big Sean and Rapscallions! Tickets onsale now!
Aside from bringing an amazing festival to the Sunset Strip, this festival is all about restoring the sense of community. On that note, the SSMF is welcoming all Los Angeles Firefighters free entry into the festival on Saturday September 12. We appreciate all they contribute year round, but in times like this it seems we are EXTRA appreciative. As a token of our gratitude, we welcome them to have a stress free day off and enjoy some tunes.
Thanks to the LAIST!
A lot of thank-yous, hugs and gratitude has been given to firefighters this past week in light of the recent wildfires, most notably the Station Fire. With that said, Sunset Strip Music Festival organizers today announced that they are allowing free admittance to Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County Firefighters with proper ID into the festival on Saturday when the street closes. Some 40 bands will take the outdoor and indoor-club stages from 2 p.m. to around 9 p.m. (with shows continuing indoors until around 2 a.m.). Headliners include Ozzy Osbourne, Korn, Pepper, The Donnas, Fishbone, Unwritten Law, Kottonmouth Kings, Shiny Toy Guns, Shwayze and LMFAO (see a full list here). Tickets are selling at $39.50 pre-sale, $50 at the door.
