Heko’s Hot Stuff

Tying bows on May and curly Q’s in June.

Here is the musical excitement of the next coming weeks:

5/21/07 Albert Hammond Jr. at the House Of Blues WeHo- such an awesome show. I saw them open for Incubus a couple of months back and their performance was absolutely the best part of the night (no offense Incubus kids). From the stage layout to the backdrop and then the band just killed it… great show.

-Albert Hammond Jr- In Transit

5/22/07 at The Troub - The Roxy ladies new Coachella jacuzzi buddy, POP LEVI with Mando Diao and The Capshuns. We love it and you will too.

-Pop Levi- Sugar Assault Me Now

5/26/07 theAUDITION: straight off a tour with Jack’s Mannequin and Head Automatica… the best boys Chicago can provide to us West Coasters (that is if your thing is Rock with a little pop/punk thrown into the mix). They are coming for a huge show at The Roxy and they come to rock!

-The Audition- You’ve Made Us Conscious

5/28/07 Phantom Planet: Andy & Frankie’s Social Club is back at The Roxy Theatre and they aim to please. Monday the 28th is the beginning of a handful of extraordinary nights in our backyard. Bring it Andy Dick! (and check out this video I found from an old school Phantom Planet performance from back in the day… maybe we can get them to do this cover again)

-Phantom Planet & Maroon Five live at The Glass House covering Hey Jude

6/1/07 The Colour: These kids are LA natives and have played The Roxy stage at least one time (that I can recall) before. Not to mention the support acts are the bomb diggity! The Colour, Simon Dawes and Takota all on one bill should be a Friday night for the books… plus what else have you got going on a Friday night in town? I say nothing as important as supporting local artists. No sir.

6/2/07 Louis XIV: I have already talked about the enjoyable time I had seeing these gents play at the Hollywood Bowl. We are super lucky that they now are playing at The Roxy. I don’t need to get into how good Louis XIV is… but I do need to get into the bands that we recently added to the bill: Gran Ronde and The Shys (who recently performed at The Roxy’s latest brilliant idea “Free The Strip”). This show is guaranteed to knock your socks off!

-Louis XIV- The Hunt

6/7/07 Melee at The Roxy: I am officially making the announcement right now that we have a promo going through 9 Star, a West side Action Sports Retailer, offering up tickets to see the show hopefully beginning Monday, May 21. Check out the store (click on the link for phone number and location) and check out this show. My little sister and her boyfriend introduced me to the band’s music a few months back right before we booked this show. Nice call Roxy crew. And the other bands playing the date ain’t half bad either: Ronnie Day, Satisfaction, The Sweet Hello

-Melee- The War

6/8/07 Ima Robot with Los Abandoned and The Hairbrain Scheme at The HOB - Ima Robot held a solid residency in my car stereo for three months without fail. And my favorite band to ever hit On The Rox’s stage, The Hairbrain Scheme are opening. In all honesty I am not familiar with Los Abandoned but the fact that they are on a bill with these other two bands speaks very highly of them. Go out and support our boys. If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of a guy wearing a Mexican wrestling mask… but only if you are lucky.

Rooney

Rooney

Rooney is a five-piece rock band from Los Angeles signed to Geffen Records. The band is composed of 5 members: Robert Carmine, Louie Stephens, Taylor Locke, Ned Brower, and Matthew Winter. The band is named after the character Principal Ed Rooney from the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Their music is reminiscent of British Invasion rock and 1980s pop, and has been compared to The Beatles, The Cars and Blur. Having toured the nation with acts such as Weezer and The Strokes, Rooney’s official website states that the band “manages to capture elements from the past four decades and make them sound modern today.”

Mêlée

Melee

Pianos and a melodic sense greater than the usual punk-pop thrill set Orange County’s Mêlée apart from their peers. Chris Cron (vocals/guitar), Rick Sanberg (guitar), Ryan Malloy (bass), and Mike Nader (drums) formed the band in 1999 while still in their teens, and eventually signed with the Hopeless Records affiliate Sub City. While elements of punk revivalism and emo tinged the ends of Against the Tide, the quartet’s debut for the label, Mêlée is much closer to the songwriting-driven modern rock sounds of a band like Rooney.

Ours

Ours

Although technically consisting of five members, Ours is essentially the brainchild of self-described music obsessive Jimmy Gnecco. Born and raised in New Jersey, Gnecco toyed with music and various band configurations after graduating high school, but it wasn’t until 1996, when he returned to America from a brief sabbatical, that he decided to pour his complete energy into music. It didn’t take Gnecco long to attract industry attention; a major-label bidding war quickly ensued, with Gnecco turning down a few deals on the way to ultimately striking a partnership with DreamWorks. Gnecco says of his work: “I don’t know if I’ll ever be the cheery songwriter type,” Gnecco says with understatement. “With these songs, I want people to feel happiness, sadness, bitterness, anger - to provoke emotions from people. I’m not preaching. I’m not trying to be clever. My songs are just subconscious thoughts coming out. The thing about music is, it’s emotional, it’s visceral, it’s not right or wrong. It hits each individual in a different way. That’s how I want people turned on.”

Jah Rox-afari

My long time friend and soon to be reggae legend(imo) Elan is playing The Roxy this Sunday, May 27th. Although he is still young, he brings years of experience rocking stages across the world singing the reggae music. He will not disappoint you, I promise. After spending years fronting the pioneers of reggae, The Wailers, he has embarked on his own journey. With help from greats such as Sly and Robbie, Fatis and Cutty Ranks among others, Elan is on his way to making his own history. Don’t miss this legend in the making.

Get Ready to Rock!

Clutch
This Thursday and Friday, The Roxy welcomes rock veterans Clutch. Opening for Clutch On Thursday are Year Long Disaster, Backyard Tire Fire and Benard’s Millions. Friday has pretty much the same line up besides our good friends Warner Drive taking the opening slot. Get your tickets now because it’s on it’s way to selling out.

They’re a little punk? Well, yes, but there again…they’ve a hint of metal? True. However, don’t they also have a touch of the stoner about them? Sure. And while we’re at it, let’s not forget the southern rock influence. Come on, you know what that means. Clutch are genuine individuals, icons for musical excellence who confound the modern desire for putting everything into neat boxes. They’re a classic rock band with an ultra modern sweep.

Kudos to Miss Megan J

Megan Roxy
I happened to be in the presence of greatness tonight when Miss Megan Jacobs debuted some of her soon to be released album at The Mint in Los Angeles. She is an amazing vocalist and an absolute dream to listen to… when her album gets released I recommend that you run (not walk) to the record store to pick the sucker up! Seriously, a dream.

bpm www.theroxyonsunset.com
We are very excited to welcome BPM Magazine to The Roxy. BPM has put a super hot lineup for their one-night stand on the westside. Visting us from East York, Toronto is the electro dance duo Mstrkrft with DJs Lazaro Casanova from Miami and LA’s own Steve Aoki.

MSTRKRFT (pronounced Master Craft) is the pet project of Toronto musician Jesse F. Keeler (Death From Above 1979) and studio wizard Al-P (Girlsareshort), two music-loving homies who’ve been itching to make people dance as hard as they’ve rock out in the past.

“It all comes down to feel,” states AL-P. “We’re interested in making people feel like they want to dance, at least a little bit, so it’s all about whatever it takes to get people there.”
